Cenote Diving Information & guidelines

CONSERVATION

  1. The delicate formations found in the cenotes are very old and can brake very easily. These grow at an average rate of about one inch every 100 years. Because the caves are filled with water these formation will no longer continue to form. Any damage is thus permanent and irreversible.

  2. It is forbidden to touch, break or remove any of the natural formations from the cenotes, even if they are already broken.

  3. The cenotes support a very intricate and diverse ecosystem. Please ensure its survival and protection by using biodegradable sunscreens and insect repellents.

  4. It is up to you to ensure that you dive in a manner that preserves this environment. Please be aware of your buoyancy, finning techniques, position in the water and streamlining all your gear!
